Last season
I watched basketball finals
the first game was particularly interesting
blown air conditioning
left players looking
more exhausting
fumes of frustrating
perspirating perpetuating
as the game kept playing
but one star could not handle
calls himself a king
bent over in writhing pain
electrolytes couldn't save him
and this off season
we still see him
promoting french fries
that don't digest in
the human body
selling out
burgers
made of god knows what
to poor youths
obese not by nature
but by nurture
the comfort of inexpensive
quick food
unregulated but health inspected with As.
the hypocrisy is astounding
unmeasurable and confounding
athletes should be helping
health articulately promoting
knowledge is power
while money can't save
you time your future self
won't understand
why you didn't choose truth
over green paper.
